Computer wasnt responding properly to mouse clicks on the icons, and when I went to the Apple menu for Dock Preferences, I noticed that no scrolling was happening-I could click on things in the menu, but couldnt scroll to any, meaning the blue bar wasnt there and hovering over the arrows wouldnt pop out another menu. Why does it do this, and how can I prevent it from happening P.S.
This used to happen to me a while back and then it stopped, I remember there was a thread about it but I couldnt find anything using the search terms I tried. Thanks P.P.S. Im on a Mac. I think thats how I did it before, but well see what happens. The first dock icon is simply an alias that points to one of them. If for some reason you launch the second you end up with two icons. It can also happen if you have two mounted devices (disk1, disk2 - disk1, dmg image - disk1, memory stick) and they both have the FF app on them. Assuming it is the latter issue, is there any way to change the behavior. Yeah its pretty random for me too thats why (or one of the reasons) why its annoying. Im going to watch it from now to see if its after I rebuild the directory with DiskWarrior, or clone the main drive with SuperDuper, or anything else (and post it here if it seems to be a pattern). I also use SuperDuper to clone two drives (one internal and one FW external); Im very paranoid. If you clickhold on the dock icon and select show in Finder for each of the FF icons the next time it happens it should clear it up by showing the original apps. ![]() Just replace the old one with the new one by moving the new one somewhere on the dock, and dragging off the old one. Viola. After reboot I opened FF (via Profile Manager) and a second icon opened in the Dock. I removed the original one and dragged the new one into place, then quit FF. I closed FF, rebooted, opened FF and a second icon appeared again. So it seems (in my case) to have something to do with rebooting. Today I searched for an answer and after reading the suggestion above from RobertJ, I tried to get both FF icons in the Dock to Show in Finder. So I tried several other Dock icons, and NONE of them will Show in Finder. Dont know if they ever would before, but they dont at this time. Dont know if that has anything to do with this, but a few times lately it seems my computer has forgotten where things are: First I started getting occasional popup windows asking Where is system events. Seems to make no difference whether I hit Cancel or actually show Finder where the file is. Then, about two times now, after starting Thunderbird I got the same type of popup window asking where is thunderbird-bin All the maintenance routines are run at least weekly, and Ive run DiskWarrior and TechTool. FF 3.6.16 OS X 10.6.7. Configure your dock the way you want it and see if that works. ![]()
